Sliding Squares Wrap

Sliding Squares is a blend of simple mosaic knitting combined with garter and stockinette stitches and entertaining color shifts. The design includes two sizes. The small wrap (13 x 80) uses a 10x20g set of mini skeins and 1x400g skein of a contrast color. The large wrap (18 x 80) uses a 10x35g set and 110g (a little over 1 skein) of the contrast color. In the Design Modification Section, several possibilities are discussed, including how to use a 12x20g set, 24x10g set, 10g scraps, and even 2 or 3 full skein fade colors.

For those who have never attempted mosaic knitting, this pattern is an excellent place to begin. Each band is designed to use a different square, and I’ve supplied fifteen square design options. You can use your favorite square for the entire shawl or select a different one for each band. If you’re feeling especially adventurous, you can design your own 11×11 stitch square. I have included a link to a handy online mosaic design generator.
